The Derma-Wand Handisol Uses Ultraviolet C (UVC) Light to Create a Bacteria-Free
Wound Bed
The bactericidal UVC light treatment
program is an adjunctive therapy for reducing and eliminating bacterial
bio-burden that can impede wound healing. This method of treatment is consistent
with wound care best practice guidelines. It is an important modality for
cleaning a wound of surface infection.
Unlike topical antiseptics that can inhibit wound healing, the effects of UVC
are all positive.
With one treatment per day, UVC
light:
-
Effectively kills bacteria
-
Stimulates cellular proliferation
-
provides a mild debridement to
reduce eschar.
It can be used where conventional methods have been
ineffective. Recently published clinical studies have documented the
bactericidal effectiveness of UVC light therapy.
Use it
for:
-
Infected Wounds with Poor
Circulation
UVC light at therapeutic levels is an important adjuct to antibiotic
medications. Systemic antibiotics often do not reach the infected wound tissues
because of poor circulation at the wound site. The antibacterial characteristic
of UVC light makes it effective in treating problematic wounds. UVC therapy can
be given concurrently with systemic antibiotics.
-
Antibiotic Resistant Species
Even where sensitivity testing has shown resistance of the colonizing species to
specific antibiotics, UVC light can efficiently kill these strains of bacteria
species. In particular, UVC is effective in eliminating methicillin-resistant
Staphylococcus
aureus (MRSA) which is becoming increasingly prevalent, and interferes with
wound healing.
-
First Line Therapy
For combating
developing infections and associated skin problems.
-
Replacement for Topical
Antimicrobials
Topical antiseptic agents can be toxic to granulating
tissue. UVC light therapy clears infections. It also provides a mild
stimulating effect from the inflammatory response to help accelerate wound
healing.
You don't need to choose a compromise between
wound healing response and infection control. The Derma-Wand actually
provides a mild positive stimulation effect while it works to knock out the
infection.
More Features of UVC
Therapy:
-
At higher exposure levels UVC provides a soft
debridement to help disintegrate eschar that can inhibit wound closure.
- With guide rails to maintain the correct
wound distance, a built-in timer and digital controls, the Derma-Wand is the
ideal unit for applying UVC treatment. The Derma-Wand UVC light is part of the
Handisol family of hand-held ultraviolet light dermatology products.
Full Information:
A training guide and a physician's prescribing
sheet is shipped with each Derma-Wand so that you can more quickly implement the UVC Derma-Wand therapy at your facility.
