Course Objective
- To identify the function and
appearance of various stages of the wound healing process.
- To identify characteristics
of common types of chronic wounds: Pressure, Venous, Arterial and Diabetic
Ulcers.
- To be aware of fundamental components
of a wound management program for individuals with specific types of chronic
wounds.
- To design a patient assessment
for individuals with pressure, diabetic and venous ulcers.
- To become aware of factors interfering
with wound healing that also need to be addressed as part of an overall wound
care program in order to optimize the effectiveness of therapeutic modalities.
- To identify and use valid and
reliable wound assessment tools that can be used to determine the effectiveness
of therapeutic interventions.
- To review cellular actions and
clinical efficacy of therapeutic modalities (ultrasound, laser, ultraviolet
light, electrotherapy) that are used in the treatment of individuals with
chronic wounds.
- To be able to identify clients
who might benefit from the use of therapeutic modalities to accelerate wound
closure.
- To review background information
necessary to be able to select treatment parameters for electrotherapy when
treating a patient with a chronic wound.
- To review methods necessary
to optimize delivery of electrical stimulation to chronic wounds.
