Course Description
- This course is designed to provide the opportunity
for health care professionals from several different disciplines to learn
the knowledge and skills needed to use therapeutic modalities in the treatment
of chronic wounds.
- The course will review background knowledge
on the wound healing process, general principles for identifying and managing
common types of wounds and wound assessment techniques. It will focus on the
effects of therapeutic modalities, including ultrasound, laser, ultraviolet
light, and electrical stimulation on the wound healing process, and summarize
research evidence that supports the use of these modalities to treat individuals
with chronic wounds.
- Application techniques and rationale for the
selection of stimulation parameters will be reviewed for the use of electrical
stimulation on chronic wounds.
- This course will include slide presentations,
in-class exercises, demonstrations, and clinical lab sessions to instruct
the course material.
- A certificate of attendance will be earned upon
successful completion of the course.
